UVic Juggling Club

About Us

We are a recreational juggling club situated on the campus of the University of Victoria, in beautiful Victoria, BC. We encourage all levels of jugglers to come out to play or practise; we are non-competitive and encourage all members to share their skills with others.

Where and When do we meet?

Winter Term (September 6th to April):
Mondays and Thurdays, 6pm - 8pm, Ian Stewart Complex Racquetball court #2 and Squash court #6.
Location: the Ian Stewart Complex is at 3964 Gordon Head Road, across the road from Velox Rugby Club, next to Mount Doug High school, off of Mackenzie Ave.

You must have a valid student card or RecPlus pass, or pay a drop-in fee of $6 to get into the building; we will also have a limited number of instructor passes for non-UVic people willing to a) commit to attending regularly, and b) teach other people stuff.
The main entrance is beside the tennis courts. Proceed straight down the hall from the main doors and follow the hall around the corner at the end; turn left half-way along (after turning the corner) to get to the area with the squash courts and racquetball courts.
For more information and maps for the Ian Stewart Complex, see the building webpage.

Summer (roughly May to August):
Thursdays evenings, 6:00pm at Stadacona Park near Oak Bay Junction, between Pandora and Begbie Street at Belmont.

      Links

These links are just the tip of the iceberg for juggling webpages - check the newsgroup rec.juggling for much more information, or do a search on juggling-related information.

Instructional

How to Juggle Seems like one of the best online tutorials for how to juggle. Give it a shot!! (and then come out to the club, but not necessarily in that order!)
TWJC Tutorials This site has written instructions for lots and lots of 3-ball tricks (unfortunately without pictures or video).
The Instant Juggling Manual The title explains it all - words and pictures.
Wildcat Jugglers Tutorial Lots of good 3-ball tricks and a few for 4 and 5, all with excellent videos (including slo-mo!) to help demonstrate.

Resources

JugglingDB Excellent resource for juggling articles and indices online.
Juggling Insanity has some great variations on traditional tricks. Check out the "videos" section for the most interesting material.
PassingDB Huge amounts of material on passing patterns for 2 or more jugglers.
Contactjuggling.com a great resource for contact jugglers. Look for local juggler Ryan Mellors' name on some of the tricks.
Footbag.Org Great resource for footbagging (or "hacky-sack" to those of us who grew up in the 80s).
unicycle.com. Unicycles. Need we say more?
The Ministry of Manipulation A hub of information, blogs, and videos from and about contact juggling. Look for material by and about former club member Ryan Mellors.
Some great videos of great past and present jugglers.

Performers

Local Circus School: Vancouver Circus School is a recently-established school in nearby Vancouver! Very exciting.
The Gandini Juggling Project Strange and experimental juggling like you've never seen before.
Full Moon Performers An innovative troupe of innovative musicians and performers.
Sean Anderson Home page of the man who has been called "the best diabolist in North America".
Jay Gilligan Jay is my personal hero; he has spent his juggling career rebelling against the stereotypes and cliches of juggling, with panache, totally hip style, and dazzling technical skill.

Miscellany

The Problem with Juggling Highly amusing essay by one Chuck Moulton.
http://www.obi.com.au/ Site for weird balance boards, kind of like souped-up Rola Bola boards.
Juggler.net offers free, jugging-related email addresses.
JugglingLab is a great juggling animator that can show you zillions of awesome patterns, and it's all online through the magic of Java.
Jongl and JoePass are the two best pieces of software to display, create, and fiddle with juggling patterns from the comfort of your own computer.
Juggler: the Game Another arcade-like juggling game, in this one you move a paddle to "catch" (actually bounce) balls in the air.

Ugly Athelics & Rec logo we (shudder) have to displayThis page last updated shortly before William invaded England. Ah, those heady Anglo-Saxon knights...
