Felicitas' Inaugural DJ Competition
Rules
Contestants must:
- Be 18 years of age or older. UVIC Students will be given preference over non-students.
- If participant is under 19 they must wear a wristband signifying that they are a minor, and are only permitted to be in the venue for the duration of their performance.
- Provide the following to the Director of Events:
- Name, phone number, email, UVic student number (if applicable), gear list.
- Be available for at least one first-round date and all Semi-Final and Final dates from 8:15pm to 1:00am:
- First Round dates: October 5thth, 12h, 19th, 26th, and November 2nd
- Semi-Final dates: November 16th & 23th
- Finals date: November 30th
Other Rules
· Overly intoxicated competitors will be removed from the venue and disqualified from competition.
· All decisions are final.
Sign Up
- To sign-up please contact Remy Hall at uvssevnt@uvic.ca or sign up in person at the SUB Resource Centre.
- Only the first 15 students to sign up will be guaranteed a spot. A 10-person waitlist will be taken in case of drop-outs. After round one begins the Director of Events can choose to open up the competition to non-student competitors at their discretion.
- Choice of First Round date and contestant order will be on a first come, first served basis. Semi-Final and Final spots will be filled by lottery.
Contest Details
Prizes
- 1st prize – Ferry travel, accommodation, and tickets for two to the World Finale of the Red Bull 3Style DJ competition in Vancouver held in December. $200 spending money.
- 2nd prize - $250
Judging
First and Second Round:
For first and second rounds audience voting will account for 100% of the voting.
Final Round
For the final round there will be three judges, accounting for 50% of the contestant’s final score upon the following criteria: song selection/audience reaction (15%), mixing/technical ability (15%), and overall impression (20%). The audience’s votes will be worth 50% of the contestant’s score.
First Round
- There will be 5 nights in the First Round with up to 3 contestants per night.
- Each contestant will be given two 30-minute sets.
- 1 qualifier will be selected from each night to move onto the Semi-Finals.
- The qualifiers will be notified by email the day after their performance.
Semi-Finals
- There will be 2 nights in the Semi-Finals with up to 3 contestants per night.
- One qualifier will be selected from each night to move onto the Finals.Each contestant will be given two 30-minute sets
- The qualifiers will be notified by email the day after their performance, and results will be posted on the website.
Finals
- Two finalists will go head-to-head the night of the finale.
- Each finalist will get two 50 minute sets.
- The winner will be announced at the end of the night.
