Welcome to the Ombuds Office
The Ombuds office is an independent, impartial and confidential resource for
students (current, former or prospective) and other members of the University
community.
The Office provides information and guidance on students' rights & responsibilities,
and UVic regulations & procedures. The Ombudsperson receives inquiries
and complaints from students, and can:
- facilitate communication between students and staff or faculty
- problem-solve
- clarify options or gather information not easily accessible to students
- refer students to support services
- help find constructive ways of raising an issue
- assist in the use of appeal procedures
- investigate and make recommendations
The Ombudsperson is also an 'agent for change', recommending improvements to
policies and advocating for fair procedures. The Office offers workshops and
talks on conflict and communication, fairness and related issues.
